Ray is the NSW Area Manager for Masterwize (pictured on the right), which means he overseas regular cleaning services at more than 300 retail and business locations across the State.
“My day starts at 6. The majority of our cleaners work outside of business hours so the first task in the day is to make sure that everyone was able to get to their location on time.
With more than 250 cleaners under my supervision, it’s inevitable that we have the occasional no show due to illness or some other unforeseen event.
Our automated system alerts me of any no-shows so in the morning, I focus organising replacement cleaners and schedule make up cleans with the help of Masterwize HQ in Sydney.
Today is the weekly conference call with the National Manager and my State Managers peers from Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
This is a great opportunity to catch up, swap notes and share learnings with my colleagues.
After the call, I begin my daily tour of our customer sites. My remit stretches from Ballina in the North across to West Wyalong and down to Bega.
Fortunately, I’m not expected to cover that distance every day! My circuit today takes me from customer sites in Mount Druitt and then on to St. Mary’s, Penrith, Richmond and Windsor.
During a typical day, I’d visit ten stores where I conduct detailed store audits. I will check in with our cleaning operators and meet up with Store and Regional Managers. The majority of my sites are retail locations with some commercial and business locations thrown in.
At each audit, I evaluate the cleaning stock, test and tag equipment and deliver training and coaching updates to my colleagues, which are recorded on our electronic quality management systems via my able assistant, a tablet computer!
Satisfied that all of our clients are happy and our operators are motivated and clear about what’s required over the remainder of the week, I head home.
From 4-6pm, it’s time to focus on paperwork, calls and checking in with head office. I spend a while preparing from my trip up to Northern New South Wales, which is the focus for tomorrow.
